126334 Rolex Datejust 41 - Review And Buying Guide

By the luxury hut

The word "iconic" is arguably one of the most overused terms in the luxury watch industry. However, this label should be reserved for a few truly legendary timepieces defining a groundbreaking innovation or a mechanical achievement.

With that in mind, the Rolex 'Datejust' is unequivocally an icon. Introduced in 1945, the Rolex Datejust redefined the concept of an everyday watch forever and has since retained its status as the definitive benchmark for wristwatches. While it has rightfully evolved over the years, adapting its DNA to suit modern audiences and their interests, the core of this model remains the same to date.

While the Datejust lacks the cult following of the Rolex Submariner or the Rolex Daytona, it is often synonymous with the name Rolex. And that, my dear, is the beauty of this collection.

Here, we will explore the details of a rather contemporary Rolex Datejust 41 Ref. 126334 that appeals to modern sensibilities while retaining the elegance and timeless design for which the model is celebrated.

Before we begin, let's honour our tradition of acknowledging the original model: the Rolex Datejust.

History of the Rolex Datejust

The story dates back to Rolex's 40th anniversary in 1945 when it introduced the Datejust to celebrate the occasion. The watch is famed as the first self-winding watch that showcases a date wheel on the dial, adding practicality to an elegant design. The Datejust was the first timepiece to feature ‘Date’ on the dial of a wristwatch. It remained a true cornerstone of the luxury watch industry for over three-quarters.

The first Rolex Datejust Ref. 4467 was made of 18ct yellow gold. Its case size was 36mm, and it had a fluted bezel and a jubilee bracelet. Rolex utilised an Oyster case, which provided water resistance via a screw-down crown.

The Datejust's main turning point came in 1950 when Rolex finally released what the public wanted—the Datejust Reference 5030 and 5031 references in stainless steel and two-tone (steel and gold) configuration. This innovation placed the Datejust model at the pinnacle of success, not just in terms of accessibility but also in aesthetics, durability, and functionality.

History of the Rolex Datejust

In 1953, Rolex added a Cyclops lens over the date to improve legibility. This lens was placed on the glass surface, right over the date, for a zoom-in effect.

The Rolex Datejust's design is enduringly brilliant and has remained universal in terms of its appeal. Whether you want a Rolex that makes a statement or accompanies you on your everyday work and lasts a lifetime, the Datejust is an absolutely fantastic model. Several things have made the Rolex Datejust so popular. It has been the go-to luxury timepiece for countless buyers and collectors all over the world.

Since its exciting beginning, Datejust's popularity has elevated to such an extent that if you mention 'Rolex' to the average person, Datejust will come to mind.

Today, the Rolex Datejust is perhaps the most varied model in Rolex's wide catalogue and one of the most sought-after watches worldwide. It is available in sizes from 28mm to 41mm and is made of stainless steel, solid gold, and two-tone for both men and women. It is worn by countless celebrities, athletes, political leaders, and anyone you could possibly think of.

Things to love about the Rolex Datejust 41 Ref. 126334

The Rolex Datejust 41 Ref. 126334 has a robust steel and white gold construction, defining the Datejust with its perfect combination of form and functionality. Rolex coined the term 'Rolesor' to refer to the combination of high-grade stainless steel and 18ct white gold on a watch.

The inevitably attractive white Rolesor construction gives the Rolex Datejust 41 Ref: 126334 its contemporary looks and feel.

The iconic fluted bezel crafted from white gold adds enough luxury, while the steel makes it perfect for everyday wear.

Rolex offers the Datejust 41 126334 with the option of blue, slate, black, Azzurro blue, mint green, silver, white, and diamond-set dials. We love how all dial colours work fantastically to complement the monochromatic look of the White Rolesor. Regardless of the dial you choose, the Ref. 126334 is subtle enough to be worn on the weekend or while you pitch a meeting or plan a special dinner date.

Not to mention - the joy of popping the crown, turning it to set the date, adjusting the EasyLink clasp on the bracelet, and snapping the clasp open and shut. Each sound will put a smile on any watch lover's face.

Our Initial Review

Honestly, to us, the Rolex Datejust is the quintessential Rolex. While we understand that the one with a fluted bezel and a jubilee bracelet might not be everyone's preference, for The Luxury Hut, the nostalgic combination of the fluted bezel and jubilee bracelet (remember the first Datejust) just makes us realise how far Rolex has come since 1945.

Although the design language has not changed much in the modern Datejust 41 126334, Rolex has truly shown what it can do from the wearability standpoint.

Everything is just a bit bigger, way more solid, and perfect! The case, bracelet, and clasp all really feel like what a modern Datejust should feel like. However, the lugs are still slender and not as boxy as the bigger Submariner models.

The case measures 41 mm and is 12mm thick. It hugs the wrist perfectly and is very light. We hand-tested this watch for a day, and trust us when we say (at least for now) that it almost felt like you aren't wearing a watch at all. The day you become a proud owner of the Datejust 126334, you'll learn to appreciate this extraordinary comfort and probably never want to give it up!

The organic curves and the high lustre make this Datejust a unique gem to wear. The watch plays with the light and surely ticks all the boxes of a man's dream watch. It's a refined balance of masculinity and elegance. Coming to the dial, it needs to be seen in person. It's a beautiful blue hue, and the hands perfectly match the overall vibe.

It features a screw-down crown and offers a water resistance of 100 metres—plenty! Rolex still hasn't found anything to improve in its Jubilee bracelet, which, in our opinion, feels fantastic and wears insanely well with such a rock-solid construction. To us, it is the bracelet that rules all other bracelets.

By now, you must be aware of the world's worst-kept secret: Rolex makes the most reliable movements. The 126334 reference Datejust houses a Rolex Calibre 3235, COSC-certified.

Overall, this watch is an irresistible package! The steel Datejust 41 126334 is perfectly suited for everyday wear and is more affordable than ever before. It's the perfect all-performance timepiece to have in your collection. It is neither too casual nor too formal, making it a strong contender for one of the top Rolex models of all time.

Lastly, we can say that the Datejust 41 is a watch that won't spend much time in your watch box but on your wrist, something you don't see every other watch enthusiast wearing. It's that comfortable! And that white gold bezel exudes just the right amount of luxury.

This exquisite timepiece retains all the signature elements of the original while embodying a distinctly modern aesthetic. Crafted from stainless steel, the case has a sleek profile that effortlessly fits under a shirt cuff.

Rolex Datejust 41 case

The 41mm measurement hits the soft spot as the size isn't overbearing, making it a great choice for men and women who want something large with more wrist presence. It features a screw-down crown, providing a water resistance of 100 metres.

Overall, Rolex keeps the watch nice and slim, making it a comfortable fit on the wrist.

Bezel

The fluted bezel is a distinctive feature of Rolex. Originally designed for functionality, it now stands as a mark of distinction.

The blend of white gold fluted bezel and durable stainless steel makes the Datejust 41 Ref. 126334 a modern classic. The iconic white gold fluted bezel draws attention to this already eye-catching timepiece and provides a highly refined and elegant look.

The white gold adds enough luxury to make the Datejust 41 a perfect companion for everyday wear. Furthermore, seeing the 18ct white gold fluted bezel reflect sunlight when you turn the watch on your wrist is pure joy.

Well, it not only shines bright but also resists oxidation and tarnish.

Dial

While several dial variations exist, the Datejust 41 in blue is striking. The captivating blue dial works fantastically to complement the monochromatic look of this White Rolesor construction.

The blue dial flaunts a subtle sunburst effect, and the nicely adorned white gold markers play wonderfully even with the slightest touch of sunlight. In case there's no light, the highly lumed Chromalight-filled markers will brightly light up the markers in a beautiful blue hue.

The dial features the iconic date window at 3 o'clock, complemented by a Cyclops magnification lens that extends from the surface of the crystal above it.

The Datejust 126334 with its blue dial is subtle enough to wear on the weekends while dressy enough for that special dinner date or important meeting.

Bracelet

This Datejust 41 is presented on a stainless steel five-link Jubilee bracelet, which suits the timepiece's elegant design. Did you know that Rolex originally designed the Jubilee bracelet for the launch of the Datejust collection in 1945?

Despite being crafted from stainless steel, the Jubilee bracelet has a very elegant and refined look. The 21mm lug-to-lug measurement and the fact that the end links of the Jubilee bracelet are pivoted mean they are flexible and fit to the wrist more comfortably than the previous versions of the timepiece. Rolex surely has put a lot of thought into these dimensions, making this Datejust 41 a great fit on just about any wrist.

Rolex Datejust 41 bracelet

The clasp of the Rolex Datejust 41 126334 delivers great comfort, and the integrated Easylink system allows you to shorten or lengthen the bracelet by a few millimetres. The 5mm EasyLink adjustment system is actually a very practical feature, especially during summer when your wrists swell due to the heat.

On the Jubilee, the Datejust 41 has a bit more bling and appears a bit more classic. The bracelet design balances elegance with robustness. On top of that, a Jubilee bracelet is your best option if you want to keep scratches, dings and blemishes to minimum visibility.

Movement

Rolex movements are a testament to advanced watchmaking, blending tradition and innovation. This Rolex 126334 is fitted with the self-winding 3235 Calibre, offering a notable power reserve of 70 hours and -2/+2 second per day precision. So you don't have to worry about winding it up for a day or two.  And, yes, it's Superlative Chronometer Certified too!

Rolex Datejust 41 movement

It's also shock-resistant and anti-magnetic. In short, the Rolex Datejust 41 Ref. 126334 delivers everything you could desire from a modern wristwatch. However, due to the perfectly constructed solid case back, you can't see the reliable mechanism inside.

Price & Availability

The Rolex Datejust 41 Reference 126334 is priced at £9300, which, according to us, is quite reasonable given the premium package you get. However, due to this model's incredible popularity, getting one at the store is nearly impossible, leaving you open to the pre-owned market, where the Datejust 126334 sells for a slightly higher value.

While Rolex has released the Datejust 41 in various combinations, the steel and white gold version with the blue dial has gained significant popularity among collectors. It is often considered one of the top Rolex investments for 2024, making it an excellent choice for collectors as well as those seeking their first Rolex watch.

Who is this watch for?

The Rolex Datejust, 41 Ref. 126334, with a blue dial, is the ideal timepiece for somebody who wants to demonstrate style and success while remaining humble. It makes a strong yet subtle statement on the wrist. It looks great with a suit and tie, and it lets people know you mean business, but not in an arrogant way. Once the work is done, you can easily take it to the bar, the restaurant, or anywhere you want, making it the perfect 'everyday' watch.

As with all Rolex watches, its craftsmanship and high-quality materials ensure exceptional durability for daily wear. At the same time, its elegance dresses up whatever you're wearing. Men and women can wear this large Datejust 41 to make a statement. To add to the hype- David Beckham and Jennifer Aniston have been seen wearing this watch numerous times.

END NOTE

Rolex has always been evolutionary with every reference, be it on the outside or the inside. The Datejust 41 Ref. 126334 is almost like that irresistible all-in-one timepiece that deserves a permanent spot in your collection.

It's well-proportioned, well-balanced and not very flashy – in short; it embraces all the qualities that will turn the heads of fellow watch enthusiasts.

Lastly, the Datejust 41 Ref. 126334 is and will always be stylish. Even though Rolex makes a more luxurious impression with the white gold bezel than its other stainless steel siblings, you'll never really have the impression that you've overdone it with your selection. Plus, an icon like this deserves to exude a fair amount of luxury, doesn't it?
