In a world of ‘one-size-fits-all’, Richard Mille comes out with a huge surprise by launching it’s first-ever women's sports watch collection. The brand’s latest release ‘RM 07-04 Automatic Sport’ is about unleashing women's power and the design is perfectly in tune with the various constraints the sportswomen face.
Richard Mille has long supported female athletics, and their watches are worn by some of the world's top sports professionals, like Yohan Blake and Rafa Nadal. This time the luxury Swiss brand has collaborated with six special female athletes to create this amazing new collection. They are Nelly Korda (golfer), Nafi Thiam (runner), Yuliya Levchenko (high-jumper), Ester Ledecka (snowboarder) and Aurora Straus & Margot Laffite (racing drivers).
All the high-achieving ladies have amalgamated their vision and say on the highly technical Richard Mille timepieces. They even chose their own colour combinations! You could see a lot of fancy colours on the case with contrasting straps.
For athletes, a timepiece's two most important attributes are weight and shock resistance. Keeping that in mind, the new collection focuses on the utilitarian part. It combines ultra-lightness with aesthetics and architectural brilliance with extreme skeletonisation to create one-of-a-kind watches!
Fun Fact: The model's total weight, including the strap, is 36 grams.
Thrilled to find out how they look? Let’s find out.
The tonneau-shaped case measures 30.5mm in diameter and 10.35mm in thickness. It has an overall lug-to-lug profile of 44.95mm. Five of the six models (mauve, creamy white, green, salmon and dark blue) are made in different colours of Quartz TPT, while the final model (black case) is from Carbon TPT. Twenty Grade 5 titanium spline screws assemble the case.
A large rubber-made winding crown of Grade 5 titanium is placed at 3 o’clock, offering easy access to the movement. Next, an oblong button made in Grade 5 titanium and crafted in a contrasting Quartz TPT colour sits at 4 o’clock below the crown. Lastly, at 9 o’clock, a rectangular Grade 5 titanium metal plate is engraved with the model number.
Since the Richard Mille RM 07-04 Automatic Sports watches are skeletonised, they don’t really have dials as we would understand by the traditional sense of the word. However, the skeletonised dial reveals the intricate work inside and is extremely attractive to look at. In short, the visual complexity greatly contrasts the bold pop-colour cases.
The dial's matte black coating perfectly complements the luminous 18ct white gold hour markers and hands. It is nicely surrounded by an outer chapter ring in a contrasting colour, flaunting the hour marker, minute track and the signature function selection indicator. A pair of central-mounted skeletonised hands point to the minutes and hours, while the smaller hand located at 5 o’clock indicate the mode of the winding crown, i.e. winding, neutral or hand setting.
The RM 07-04 models house the most compact movement ever! It has a skeletonised Calibre, the CRMA8, with a function selector at 4 o’clock. The movement runs at a frequency of 28,800vph, is resistant to 5000 g’s of acceleration, and has a power reserve of 50 hours (approximately).
The Calibre CRMA8 features its bridges and baseplate of Grade 5 titanium with a fine black DLC finish. Additionally, the brand makes the rotor from platinum and places it on ceramic ball bearings. Overall, the movement in this superlative timepiece includes the brand’s fast-rotating mainspring barrel, ensuring optimal performance.
The watches come fitted with colourful fabric straps with Velcro-style closures. Some of the strap options include green, pink, orange, blue, etc.
The watches offer a water resistance of 50m, the credit for which goes to 2 Nitrile O-rings, 316L stainless steel washers and twenty titanium spline screws.
Each model flaunts multiple layers of silica filaments or parallel carbon fibre. As a result, each timepiece looks almost similar. Richard Mille satin-finishes each watch's titanium crown, then micro-blasts and polishes it.
The launch of Richard Mille's first women's sports watch collection is a significant moment for the brand and the watch industry as a whole. The collection represents a new era of innovation and design, combining technical performance with style and femininity.
Women have different tastes from each other in accessories, watches and just about everything else. Sometimes they like black, and sometimes they like pink. So, variety is the key to gaining their love and attention, and that is exactly what Richard Mille has to offer with its new slew of releases. They have smartly tapped into the essence of a functional sports watch while balancing playfulness. This makes the RM 07-04 Automatic Sport watch the ultimate power watch for a woman who loves both sports and accessories.
Good job, Richard Mille!
