During the 1950s-1960s, the Submariner was the most classic diver’s timepiece, but Rolex wanted to achieve even greater depths and hence, needed a reliable and robust watch for assistance.

In response, Rolex launched the first official Oyster Perpetual Sea-Dweller Submariner 2000 Ref. 1665 with two red lines of the text on the dial. These models are known as ‘Double Red’.
